KINGS NOTES...

By Gann Matsuda

1.25.00
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Kings traded left wing Bill Huard to the
Atlanta Thrasher for future considerations.

Huard, 32, played in one game for the Kings this season and recorded two
penalty minutes.

He has played in thirteen games at Lowell in the AHL, scored two goals
and added two assists to go along with 65 penalty minutes.
1.24.00 On Monday, the Los Angeles Kings announced that they have traded left wing Vladimir Tsyplakov to the Buffalo Sabres for a conditional pick in the 2000 NHL entry draft. Tsyplakov played in 29 games for the Kings this season, scoring six goals and seven assists for thirteen points. In 261 games with the Kings, Tsyplakov has scored 56 goals and 81 assists for 137 points. A frequent scratch over the last two seasons, Tsyplakov was really serving only as a depth player. This trade frees up a roster spot and with a lot of luck, could bring a better player to the Kings in the draft.
1.23.00 Just prior to game time on Sunday, the Los Angeles Kings activated center Jozef Stumpel and right wing Glen Murray from the injured reserve list. Both played a regular shift during their Sunday afternoon game against the Colorado Avalanche, a 3-2 win for the Kings at Staples Center. Stumpel, who suffered a left knee contusion and missed the last seven games, scored a goal and indirectly contributed to another. Murray, who scored a power play goal in the first period, was suffering from a chest contusion after he took a hit during the Kings' game against the St. Louis Blues on January 13. To make room for Stumpel and Murray on the roster, the Kings assigned right wing Pavel Rosa to the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL and winger Brad Chartrand to the Lowell Lock Monsters of the AHL.
1.14.00 On Friday, the Los Angeles Kings announced: * Goalie Jamie Storr has been activated but has not been sent to Long Beach. Looks like they're going to toss him right into the fire, either on Saturday at San Jose or on Tuesday against Buffalo. * Winger Glen Murray, who suffered a chest contusion after taking a hard hit during Thursday's game against the St. Louis Blues, has been placed on injured reserve. * Right wing Donald Audette has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to January 7 due to a sprained ankle. Audette will be eligible to come off injured reserve at any time after recovering. * Goalie Marcel Cousineau has been assigned to the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL. * Center Jason Blake has been recalled from Long Beach. * Right wing Pavel Rosa has been recalled from Long Beach. Rosa leads the Ice Dogs in scoring (15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points). This will be Rosa's first stint with the Kings since last season.
1.12.00 Late word from the Los Angeles Kings... Center Bryan Smolinski suffered what was called an impingement of a nerve in his knee after being hit by a Rob Blake slapshot on Tuesday during their game against the Ottawa Senators. Smolinski suffered temporary paralysis, but feeling returned to the knee and he is expected to play on Thursday. Defenseman Aki Berg, who was on the ice for three of the Senators' four goals on Tuesday and coughed up the puck, giving Senators' center Shawn McEachern an easy goal to start the second period, will be a healthy scratch on Thursday when the Kings host the St. Louis Blues. "I don't want to single out Aki for last night's game," Kings' head coach Andy Murray said. "But I want to sit him down for a game to let him think about a few things." Murray said that after looking at the play again, he thinks water on the ice may have contributed to the turnover. But he also felt that Berg was partially at fault. "He does have a habit of trying to slap the puck a little instead of just pushing it and that is a problem," Murray said. "He wants to get a little more on the pass, but he loses control. That's what happened on that goal." Garry Galley, who has missed the last 3 1/2 weeks due to post-concussion syndrome, will take Berg's place in the lineup. On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Kings announced that they have assigned defenseman Frantisek Kaberle to the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL. Kaberle was viewed by the coaching staff to have been struggling lately and has been a healthy scratch for the last five games.
1.4.00 On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Kings announced that they have recalled winger Brad Chartrand from the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL. The Kings also placed center Ian Laperriere on the injured reserve list retroactive to December 31. An MRI examination revealed that he suffered a knee sprain and a bone bruise on December 30 against the Edmonton Oilers. Left wing Luc Robitaille will play in his 1,000th NHL game tonight at St. Louis. The Kings have announced that they will honor him during a pre-game ceremony on Tuesday, January 11, when they host the Ottawa Senators at Staples Center.
1.3.00 Matt McHale reported in Monday's DAILY NEWS that Los Angeles Kings' center Ian Laperriere suffered what could be a serious knee injury during last Thursday's game against the Edmonton Oilers. Laperriere will undergo an MRI today. Although they wanted him to get in more practice and get into game-shape, the Kings will put recently-signed center Bob Corkum into Laperriere's spot. 1.2.00 On Sunday, the Los Angeles Kings announced that they have assigned center Jason Blake and right wing Brad Chartrand to the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL. Although Blake has been on injured reserve while recovering from post-concussion syndrome and Chartrand has been recovering from a groin strain, there was no mention of whether or not this is a rehabilitation assignment.
